Crítica: L’allargada ombra de l’holocaust. Torna l’holocaust i la barbàrie nazi de la mà de “El lector” del britànic Stephen Daldry per constatar que després de “El hundimiento” - sobre els darrers dies de vida d’Adolf Hitler -, “El niño del pijama de rayas” o “Operación Valquiria”, que desenterrà i desempolsà el passat ominós i vergonyós de l’Alemanya nazi aporta bons rendiments a la indústria cinematogràfica. Tot i que “El lector” està vestida de melodrama amb una història central d’amor etern i intemporal, que s’allarga i s’esfilagarsa en el temps i en l’espai, al final s’acaba parlant de conceptes i dilemes com la culpabilitat, la connivència, la innocència o la ignorància envers el règim de terror instaurat pel genocida de Hitler. Al cap i a la fi, les lectures, un altre dels protagonistes d’aquest estirat i pompós melodrama de jove adolescent en braços d’una dona madura, és un simple detall decoratiu de desdibuixada força dramàtica que tan sols serveix per embellir un previsible i estudiat melodrama fet per humitejar els lacrimals i temptejar descaradament els cobejats premis Oscar. Així “La odissea” d’Homer o “La dama del gosset” de Txèjov sonen i ressonen de forma buida, mecànica, insípida i tan sols serveix perquè després els relats orals siguin transmutats en relats enregistrats per cercar intencionadament allò sublim, el sacrifici i l’amor incondicional. Film d’època amb constants rebrecs temporals, anquilosat i empedrat, amb moltes capes de maquillatge, variats decorats i esforçada recreació històrica. I uns personatges amanerats, enamorats d’ells mateixos, especialment el semblant greu i trasbalsat de Ralph Fiennes que ofereix una fotocòpia pròpia de tics i posats apresos, o l’immens actor Bruno Ganz mostrant un únic, monolític i escultòric registre de professor seriós i intel·ligent. Menció apart ofereix el treball de Kate Winslet, premiada amb un Oscar pel seu paper després d’anys de nominacions, tot i que potser ofereix una interpretació més rica, complexa i elogiosa a “Revolutionary road”, però en moltes ocasions tampoc s’escapa d’una actuació de posat estudiat i amanerat, fruit de les directrius del britànic Daldry que ha imposat les composicions tibades i afectades. Més enllà de l’indubtable interès dels temes de la pel·lícula se’m fa impossible sostreure’m de la desagradable impressió de trobar-me enfront d’un melodrama programat, mesurat i manufacturat en un laboratori de productes fets per triomfar.
